Your Guide to SAT Fee Waivers

The costs associated with applying to college can quickly add up and taking advantage of the SAT fee waiver program can help you save money. At College Board, we believe that there should be no cost barriers for students to prepare for life after high school. This post will provide you with key details on this program:

  • What fees are waived
  • Who qualifies
  • How to access your fee waiver
  • How to use a fee waiver to register for a test, and more

What Does an SAT Fee Waiver Cover?

If you qualify for an SAT fee waiver, you can take the SAT twice for free. You’ll also get unlimited free score sends so you can wait to see your score before deciding if you’re going to send it to colleges. See all of the other benefits on this page.

Am I Eligible for an SAT Fee Waiver?

To see if you are eligible for an SAT fee waiver, review the fee waiver eligibility criteria:

  • Check with your school counselor if you’re not sure if you’re eligible.
  • Check if you’ve already received fee waiver benefits by signing in to your College Board account and visiting your My SAT homepage.
  • Once you’ve confirmed your fee waiver eligibility, you’ll have access to your full set of fee waiver benefits. You won’t need to get more fee waivers.

How Do I Get My SAT Fee Waiver Benefits?

There are a few ways you might get your fee waiver:

  • If you took the PSAT/NMSQT or SAT on a school day, your College Board account may already reflect your fee waiver benefits. Take a few simple steps to accept your benefits.

  • If your counselor gave you a 12-digit fee waiver code, input the code when you register for the SAT. After your registration is complete, you will see your full set of fee waiver benefits online and will automatically have access to all the benefits. You won't need to enter this code again.

    • If you don't enter a fee waiver code when registering, you can enter your code during score release to access these benefits.

    • You only need to confirm your fee waiver eligibility once with your counselor, and you'll be good to go to access the full set of benefits as long as you’re in high school.

  • If you requested a fee waiver directly from the College Board, approved students will see their benefits in their account.

What Are My Next Steps?
