Virginia Students Have a New Path to College and Career Readiness

Beginning July 1, 2026, schools throughout Virginia will be required to offer the SAT on a school day to either juniors or seniors during the fall or spring, according to House Bill No. 410. This legislation makes testing more accessible across the state by ensuring every public high school student can take the SAT during regular school hours.

Why You Should Take the SAT in School

Starting in fall 2026, every Virginia public high school must offer the SAT during school hours instead of on the weekend  to juniors or seniors. Participation is 100% voluntary, and your school will decide to administer the test in either the fall or spring testing window. This not only gives you the opportunity to test in a familiar environment close to home; you’ll also feel more confident and comfortable since you’ll be with your friends and classmates. 

Taking the SAT on a school day also helps remove common barriers of testing such as needing to arrange for transportation, rescheduling work, or missing out on family time.
